Derrick Michael Xzavierro (born 1 April 2003), known for his initials DMX, is an Indonesian-Cameroonian college basketball player for the Grand Canyon Antelopes of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). He is the first ever Indonesian citizen to earn a Division I athletic scholarship.[1][2]
Personal life
His father Lazare Heumi, is from Cameroon and his mother, Eva Paulina is from West Sumatra.[3]
Career
Xzavierro has been in numerous NBA programs, such as the NBA Jr in Indonesia back in 2017, and also most recently in 2021 with the NBA Global Academy in Australia Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra, making him the first Indonesian-born joining the academy.[4] And after spending one year at the academy he commited to play for the Grand Canyon Antelopes in 14 April 2022.[5] Making him also the first ever Indonesian-born in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament.
The Antelopes redshirted Xzavierro in the 2022-23 season to continue his development.[6]
His highest-scoring game was on December 27, 2023, recording 12 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 block in a win against Bethesda University.
