Folkestone Academy is a mixed secondary school and sixth form with academy status in Folkestone, Kent, England that was established in September 2007. In April 2017, the school became a part of Turner Schools[1]

History

The £40m purpose-built academy opened in 2007 and replaced the town's Channel School. In October 2013 a sixth form centre was built at The Glassworks, in Folkestone's Creative Quarter close to the town centre.

It was originally established as an all-through school educating pupils from the age of 4. However the primary department of the school was formally split from Folkestone Academy in September 2020 to become Folkestone Primary.[2][3]

The building has had 4 main cosmetic changes, mostly during 2013 going from a green colour scheme to an orange colour scheme, in 2016 when the school went monochrome grey and finally in 2019 changing to the current blue and white scheme.

The site originally contained the Wyndgate Secondary School after merging with Hillside School for Boys and Holywell School for Girls during the 1970s, eventually renamed to the Channel High School in the 1980s and the Channel School in the early-mid 1990s. However in late 2006 to be replaced with Folkestone Academy in 2007, opening in Sep.2007 and remaining open to this day.
