Grupa Azoty ATT Polymers GmbH - one of the leading polyamide 6 (PA6) manufacturing companies in Western Europe. The company is based in Guben (Germany). Grupa Azoty ATT Polymers GmbH is part of Grupa Azoty, a leader in the production of fertilisers, engineering plastics, caprolactam and other highly processed chemicals such as OXO, plasticisers and titanium white. The Group is also the largest supplier of ammonia and phosphoric acid in Poland. The effect of the company's acquisition by Grupa Azoty S.A. (formerly Zakłady Azotowe w Tarnowie-Mościcach S.A.) is the integration of caprolactam production, giving both companies the opportunity to effectively apply mutual synergies to increase customer and partner satisfaction.

The company has its own laboratory and cooperates with Grupa Azoty's state-of-the-art research facility located in Tarnów. Its activities focus both on the development of existing products and on research into new products.

The primary objective of Grupa Azoty ATT Polymers GmbH is to be customer-oriented, with stable top quality products, flexibility and fast turnaround times. It is the unique configuration of the Azoty Group companies that makes it possible to achieve these goals. It enables production and operations to be tailored to market and customer needs, achieving mutual benefits through joint development and a strengthened market position.

Production

Production capacity at Azoty Group ATT POLYMERS is estimated at 45,000 tonnes per year. The company produces polyamide 6 and sells it

Alphalon® is the trade name for high-quality polyamide 6 (PA6), available in a wide range of relative viscosities, in natural and modified varieties.

Alphalon® is used, among others, in the production of films for the packaging industry and monofilaments, and as a construction material for the automotive, electrical and household goods industries. The main modified varieties are: L - with lubricant, LN - with lubricant and nucleant, T - thermostabilised. Other modifications according to customer requirements are also possible.

Alphalon® 24 is a natural-coloured, low-viscosity polyamide 6 for the manufacture of compaund-modified granulates.

Alphalon® 25 is a natural-coloured, low-viscosity polyamide 6 for the manufacture of compaund-modified granulates.

Alphalon® 27 is a natural coloured polyamide 6 with medium viscosity, for the manufacture of carpet fibres.

Alphalon® 27C is a natural-coloured, medium-viscosity polyamide 6, for the manufacture of compaund-modified granules.

Alphalon® 27D is a natural-coloured, medium-viscosity polyamide 6, for the manufacture of composite-modified granules.

Alphalon® 27LN is a natural-coloured, medium-viscosity polyamide 6 with a release agent to facilitate the release of moulded parts, for injection moulding applications.

Alphalon® 32 is a natural-coloured, medium-viscosity polyamide 6 for the manufacture of films and monofilaments.

In 2011, at the 15th PLASTOPL International Fair for Plastics and Rubber Processing in Kielce, ATT Polymers GmbH (now Grupa Azoty ATT Polymers GmbH) received an award for alphalon E36LN, a high viscosity polyamide 6. This product is used to produce a bi-directional oriented film that can come into direct contact with food. At the same fair, the company was also awarded for its modern trade fair presentation and innovative exhibition solutions.

History

In 1958, the authorities of the German Democratic Republic decided to increase the volume of national production of synthetic fibres. The main element of that plan was construction of the chemical complex in Guben. The first facilities of Chemiefaserwerk Guben were constructed in 1960 in the place of former arms factories Rheinmetall-Borsig; whereas in 1964, the trial production was commenced. In 1968, polyamide 6 was produced for the first time, which was used to produce carpet yarn. In years 1979–1980 the production possibilities were expanded within the field of PA6.

Upon German reunification, the plants operated under the name of Chemiefaserwerk Guben GmbH.[1] As a result of multiple ownership changes in 1998, the company Plastomid Polymere GmbH was founded, which was a specialist in polyamide 6 production (20 thousand tons per year). Two years later, the Polymerisation reactors were modernised by their adjustment to two-stage production. Since then, in addition to new types of high-viscose granulate, it was possible to enter the foil market. In 2005, the company changed its name to Unylon Polymers GmbH and increased the production powers to 47 thousand tons of PA6 per year. As a result of the financial crisis, it was not possible to maintain the production profitability and bankruptcy proceedings were commenced in 2009. One of its elements was looking for an investor who would take over Unylon Polymers GmbH. In 2010, the plants were taken over in 100% by Zakłady Azotowe in Tarnów-Mościce S.A.[2] As a result of a merger of two largest Polish chemical firms, the company has operated as Grupa Azoty ATT Polymers GmbH since 2013.

Shareholding structure

100% of the shares belong to Grupa Azoty, which has majority stakes in Poland's largest Great Chemical Synthesis plants (Tarnów, Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Police and Puławy). Thanks to its vertical integration with Grupa Azoty S.A. - the manufacturer of caprolactam - the company guarantees full security in the basic raw material, while horizontal integration with the PA6 manufacturer significantly strengthens the market position of Grupa Azoty. The specific configuration of the company's facilities gives the company the ability to respond quickly and flexibly to customer requests, thereby guaranteeing it a good and stable market position.

Management

The company is headed by two managing directors: Robert Bednarek and Jacek Dychtoń, while the supervisory board consists of Małgorzata Malec, Dr Grzegorz Grabowski and Magdalena Bednarz.

Successes

In 2011, at XV International Fairs of Plastics and Rubber Processing PLASTPOL in Kielce, the company was distinguished for alphalon E36LN used to produce bi-oriented foil that can have direct contact with foods.[3]
