In their first year under head coach Red Sanders, the Bruins compiled a 6–3 record (5–2 in PCC, second).[1] Home games were played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Sanders was previously the head coach at Vanderbilt in the Southeastern Conference.
