Шаблон:More citations needed Шаблон:Expand Swedish Acción Feminista Dominicana (AFD), was a women's organization in Dominican Republic, founded in 1931.
The women's movement in the Dominican Republic organized in 1931 with the establishment of the Acción Feminista Dominicana (AFD) under Abigail Mejia. The purpose of the AFD was to work for the legal equality between men and women, among them women's suffrage. In order to reach their goal the AFD allied with dictator Rafael Trujillo, who used AFD in his propaganda to secure support for his regime among women, as well as to present a modern image of his regime, and "feminist" therefore came to be synonymous with "Trujillista" (female Trujillo-supporter) on the Dominican Republic.[1]
Trujillo finnally fulfilled his promise to the AFD for its support after eleven years, when he introduced women's suffrage on the Dominican Republic in 1942, and the first women - Milady Félix de L'Official, Isabel Mayer och Josefa Sánchez de González - was elected to Parliament.
