Alice Pashkus (1911–1972)[1] was born on February 21, 1911, in Germany.[2] According to Jon Verbalis, she had piano tuition from Elie Robert Schmitz.[3] She studied medicine but after meeting Theodore Pashkus,[4] she dedicated herself to instrumental (mostly violin and piano) pedagogy.[5] Her most influential work was carried out in collaboration with her husband Theodore. For many years the couple were very much in demand as specialists in musicians' physical as well as psychological problems. Among their most famous clients were Ossy Renardy,[6] Yehudi Menuhin, Ivry Gitlis, Michèle Auclair, Franco Gulli[7] and Enzo Porta.[8] Alice Pashkus also gave instruction to the pianists Yorgos Manessis[9] and Jon Verbalis.[3]

- ↑ It was only after World War II that Ossy Renardy had a series of lessons with them. He had performed in many countries as a child prodigy and had already made the world premiere recording of the 24 Paganini Caprices in 1940. Alice and Theodore Pashkus helped him to prepare himself for appearing anew on the stage after the war.
