Allocapnia fumosa is a stonefly in the family Capniidae.[1] It is commonly known as the Smokies snowfly and is found in the Eastern United States,[2][3] including North Carolina,[4] Tennessee,[5] and Virginia.[6] It is found in the Great Smoky Mountains,[7] and its species name is Latin for "smoky."[8]
It is a small, winged insect found at fast, rocky streams at high elevations.[9] It was first described by Ross in 1964.[10]
