Bavaj (Шаблон:Lang-fa, also Romanized as Bāvaj)[1] is a city in, and the capital of, Abolfares District of Ramhormoz County, Khuzestan province, Iran,[2] and also serves as the administrative center for Abolfares Rural District.[3]
At the 2006 census, its population was 594 in 112 households, when it was a village in Abolfares Rural District of the Central District.[4] The following census in 2011 counted 638 people in 143 households.[5] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 487 people in 134 households,[6] by which time the rural district had been separated from the district in the establishment of Abolfares District.[7]
After the census, the village was elevated to the status of a city.[2]
