In 1913 Belgium became a founding member of the International Lawn Tennis Federation.[2] The event was then part of the ILTF World Circuit until 1969 for men, then 1972 for women before it then became part of the ILTF Independent Circuit (those events not part of the men's ILTF Grand Prix Circuit or women's Virginia Slims Circuit until 1983 when it was downgraded from that tour.[1] The tournament was still being held as a Belgian Tennis Federation event as late as 2004.[1]
