The women's handball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the management of the Handball Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina.[1]

After secession from the SFRY, the Handball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina became independent and in 1992 became a member of the European (EHF) and World (IHF) handball federations and founded the first national handball team.[2]

History

After 13 years of absence, the women's senior handball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered in Lukavac on 15 March 2021.[3] Radan Rovčanin was chosen as the coach.[4]

2022 European Women's Handball Championship qualification

Greece- Bosnia

In the first match, the Greek women's handball team celebrated with a score of 29:18.[5]

Most effective for Greece were Maria Chatziparasidou and Vailiki Gkatziou with six goals each, while for Bosnia Armina Isić with five goals and Marija Gudelj with four goals were the most effective.[5]

Bosnia-Italy

In the second round of the first round of qualification for the European Championship in 2022, the women's handball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated Italy with a score of 25:22 at the qualification tournament in Greece. [6]

This was the first official triumph for Bosnia women's handball selection after 14 years, as long as they did not have an active national team. [7] With this victory, the national team also achieved EHF points, which returned them to the EHF list, so the match against Italy can also be called historic.[8]

Latvia-Bosnia

Radan Rovčanin's team defeated Latvia 31:19 in the third round of the group.[9]

After the tournament in Greece, the coach of the Bosnian national team, Radan Rovčanin, commented:

World Championship qualification in 2023

Handball players participated in the first phase of the World Championship qualification in 2023, which will be held in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.

The team got a new coach before qualifications. Instead of Radan Rovčanin, the team's new coach was Alma Čehajić Hadžović.[10]

The women's handball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina played the first match of the first round of World Championship qualifiers against Greece in Cazin (JU Sportski centar " Salih Omerčević" Cazin). The result was 23:21 for Greece.[11]

The second leg was also played in Cazin. Bosnia and Herzegovina managed to celebrate in Cazin with 22:21, but it was not enough for the next place.[12]

Qualifications for the 2024 European Women`s Handball Championship

In April 2023, Bosnia and Herzegovina handball players found out their opponents in the European Championship qualifiers. The Bosnian team got the selections of Croatia, Romania, and Greece as their opponents.

Adnan Bašić[13], the coach of ŽRK Krivaja, was appointed as the new selector of the women's senior handball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina.[14]

Romania-Bosnia

On 12.10.2023, the Bosnian team suffered a defeat in Romania (Sala Sporturilor Mioveni). After 26:11 at halftime, the game ended at 49:18.[15]

Special attention was drawn to the incredible situation at this match. Namely, one of the handball players of the Bosnian national team passed the ball to the referee instead to one of her teammates.[16] The referee accepted the ball, but looked very surprised at what had happened. She immediately threw the ball back to Bosnian team members, who continued their attack.[17]

Bosnia-Croatia

The women's handball national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina suffered its second defeat in qualifying for the European Championship.[18] In Cazin (JU Sportski centar " Salih Omerčević" Cazin ), Croatia was better with a score of 31:17.[19]

For Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ana Vrančić and Armina Isić scored four goals each, and Edina Demić added three. Nikolina Zadravec, Dejana Milosavljević and Andrea Šimara led Croatia to victory with five goals each.[19]
