It is organized by the Brazilian Baseball and Softball Confederation (CBBS) and as of 2023 it is contested by eleven teams.[1] The championship was first played in 1936 and has been played nonstop, except for the 2020 season, when it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[2][3]
The tournament consists of two rounds. In the first stage, called Fase Inicial, teams are divided into four groups, this is usually played in July. The final round, called Fase Final, is usually contested in August by the best eight teams from the Fase Inicial. The top two teams in each group move on to the final round of the Fase Inicial, where the top ranked team wins the championship.
The most recent champions are the 2023 winners, Marília Beisebol.[4]
