Cwm Albion Football Club is a Welsh football club based in Plasmarl, Swansea. The team is currently coached by former Premier League manager, Harry Redknapp.[1]

History

The club joined Division Two of the Southern League in 1911,[2] at a time when the league contained several clubs based in South Wales.[3] They played at a basic ground, which was accessed by crossing two fields, sometimes ankle deep in mud.[3]

The ground was not enclosed and many fans watched matches from surrounding hillsides.[3] The home team changed in the village, whilst the away team changed in a disused cow shed.[3] After one 1911 match against Portsmouth F.C., the referee was chased by Cwm supporters, who threw him into the river. After sheltering in a house, the referee was escorted to the railway station by police.[3]

Their season in the Southern League was disrupted by the 1912 coal strike, and four matches were left unplayed.[2] The club was forced to leave the league shortly before the end of the season due to financial problems,[3] and finished second from bottom of the table.[2]

2023-present

In the 2022–23 season, the club lost all 22 games with a minus 191 goal difference. On 6 December 2023, Harry Redknapp came out of managerial retirement at the age of 76 to help the club in cooperation with Specsavers.[4][5]
