Dutta, also spelled Datta (Шаблон:IPA-all), is an Indian family nameШаблон:Sfn Its variation is Dutt.
The surname is found primarily among Bengali Kayasthas,Шаблон:SfnШаблон:Sfn Assamese Kalitas (Baro-Bhuyans) and also among Suvarna Baniks and Gandhabaniks in Bengal.[1][2] The surname is also used by the Mohyal Brahmins of Punjab.[3]
Datta means "given" or "granted" in Sanskrit and is also an alternative name for the Hindu deity Dattatreya.
