The Prize for Literature in support of the City of Düsseldorf has been awarded since 1972 by the city council based on the decision of the prize jury.

The Prize is endowed with 4,000 euros.
Award criteria
The Förderpreis für Literatur der Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf is awarded once a year to artists and groups, especially in the areas of poetry, writing, review and translation.[1] The prize is awarded either for a single artistic achievement or for the overall performance to date of a young artist.
A female winner should generally not be older than 40 years, a male winner no older than 35 years. A further award of the Prize to the same artist is allowed if there is a minimum period of five years between the ceremonies.
