The Gautam are a Rajput clan who claim descent from the mythical Ikshvaku dynasty.[1] Шаблон:Infobox caste They are primarily found in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, along with Rajasthan and Gujarat.[2][3]

The clan name Gautam means "descendant of Gotama or Gautam", "Gotama" meaning "one who has the most light,"[4] and comes from the fact that Kshatriya clans adopted the gotra of their house priests.[5]Шаблон:Qn
