The city is the county seat of Glascock County[2] and home to the Glascock County Courthouse, a National Register of Historic Places listed site.
Gibson's name was derived from Judge William Gibson, a former Confederate colonel and commanding officer of the 48th Georgia, who donated $500 for Glascock County's first public building, the courthouse.[3]
History
Gibson was founded in 1858 as the seat of the newly formed Glascock County. It was incorporated as a town in 1913 and as a city in 1943.[4]
Geography
Gibson is located slightly northeast of the center of Glascock County at Шаблон:Coord (33.232737, -82.595301).[5] Georgia State Routes 102 and 171 cross in the center of town. Augusta, Шаблон:Convert to the northeast, is the closest large city.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Gibson has a total area of Шаблон:Convert, of which Шаблон:Convert, or 1.41%, is water.[1] Rocky Comfort Creek, a southeast-flowing tributary of the Ogeechee River, passes through the northern part of Gibson.

Education
Glascock County School District
The Glascock County School District holds pre-school to grade twelve, in a consolidated school under one roof.[6] The district has 42 full-time teachers and over 568 students.[7]
