History
The Georgia General Assembly incorporated the place as the Town of Higgston in 1903.[2] The community was named after James Higgs, proprietors of several local mills.[3]
Geography
Higgston is located in northeastern Montgomery County at Шаблон:Coord (32.217330, -82.467332).[4] U.S. Route 280 passes through the south side of town, leading west Шаблон:Convert to Mount Vernon, the county seat, and east Шаблон:Convert to Vidalia. State Routes 15 and 29 pass through the center of Higgston together as James Street and lead northwest Шаблон:Convert to Soperton, while State Route 135 leads south from US 280 13 miles to Uvalda.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Higgston has a total area of Шаблон:Convert, of which Шаблон:Convert, or 0.32%, are water.[5] Rocky Creek passes through the east side of town, flowing southeast to the Ohoopee River in Tattnall County.
Demographics
As of the census[6] of 2000, there were 316 people, 134 households, and 84 families residing in the town. By 2020, its population was 314.
