It is an English-language remake of the 1963 film High and Low, which itself loosely based on the 1959 novel King's Ransom by Ed McBain (Evan Hunter). It is produced by A24 for Apple TV+.

Production
Announced in February 2024, the film was developed and produced by A24, Escape Artists and Mandalay Pictures, and has a script written by Alan Fox and Spike Lee. Lee directs, and the film is produced by Todd Black for Escape Artists and Jason Michael Berman for Mandalay Pictures. Spike Lee is also an executive producer through his 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks.[1]
Casting
Denzel Washington was cast in February 2024.[2] Ilfenesh Hadera and Jeffrey Wright joined the cast in March 2024.[3][4]
Filming
Principal photography began on March 4, 2024 in New York City, with Matthew Libatique serving as the cinematographer.[5]
Release
The film is set to be released theatrically by A24 before it is available to stream on Apple TV+.[6]
