Led by first-year head coach Ron Steiner, the Pointers compiled an overall record of 8–2–1 with a mark of 7–0–1 in conference play, winning the WSUC title. Wisconsin–Stevens Point advanced to the NAIA Division I Football National Championship playoffs, where the Pointers lost in the semifinals to the eventual national champion, Abilene Christian.
