They were led by fourth-year head coach Jeff Traylor. The Roadrunners played their home games at the Alamodome in San Antonio. This was their inaugural season as a member of the American Athletic Conference.

Schedule
UTSA and The American announced the 2023 football schedule on February 21, 2023.[6] On March 13 the game between UTSA and Army was moved from Saturday September 16 to Friday September 15.[7]
