Garibaldi had an overall length of Шаблон:Convert, a beam of Шаблон:Convert, and a mean draft (ship) of Шаблон:Convert. She displaced Шаблон:Convert at normal load. The ship was powered by two vertical triple-expansion steam engines, each driving one shaft, using steam from eight Scotch marine boilers. The engines were designed for a maximum output of Шаблон:Convert and a speed of Шаблон:Convert.[1] She had a cruising range of Шаблон:Convert at Шаблон:Convert.[2] Her complement consisted of 28 officers and 420 enlisted men.[3]

Her main armament consisted of two 40-caliber Armstrong Whitworth Шаблон:Convert guns, in gun turrets fore and aft of the superstructure. The ten 40-caliber quick-firing (QF) Шаблон:Convert guns that comprised her secondary armament were arranged in casemates amidships on the main deck. Garibaldi also had six QF Шаблон:Convert, ten QF 6-pounder Hotchkiss and eight QF 3-pounder Hotchkiss guns to defend herself against torpedo boats. She was also equipped with four above-water Шаблон:Convert torpedo tubes, two on each side.[1]

The ship's waterline armor belt had a maximum thickness of Шаблон:Convert amidships and tapered to Шаблон:Convert towards the ends of the ship. Between the main gun barbettes it covered the entire side of the ship up to the level of the upper deck. The barbettes, the conning tower, and gun turrets were also protected by 5.9-inch armor.[1] Her deck armor ranged from Шаблон:Convert thick.[2]
