Aetingen is a former municipality in the district of Bucheggberg in the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland. On 1 January 2014 the former municipalities of Aetingen, Tscheppach, Brügglen, Aetigkofen, Bibern (SO), Gossliwil, Hessigkofen, Mühledorf (SO), Küttigkofen, Kyburg-Buchegg merged into the new municipality of Buchegg.[1]
History
Aetingen is first mentioned in 1267 as Etinge.[2]
Geography
Before the merger, Aetingen had a total area of Шаблон:Convert.[3] Of this area, Шаблон:Convert or 42.4% is used for agricultural purposes, while Шаблон:Convert or 42.8% is forested. Of the rest of the land, Шаблон:Convert or 14.1% is settled (buildings or roads), Шаблон:Convert or 1.4% is either rivers or lakes.[4]
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 3.9% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.8%. while parks, green belts and sports fields made up 7.4%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 28.6% is used for growing crops and 13.1% is pastures. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.[4]
The former municipality is located in the Bucheggberg district, in the Limpach valley along the southern flank of the Bucheggberg. It consists of the haufendorf village (an irregular, unplanned and quite closely packed village, built around a central square) of Aetingen and the settlement of Brittern.

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Per bend sinister Sable a Semi Lion issuant rampant Or and Argent a Bend of the first.[5]
Demographics

Politics
In the 2007 federal election the most popular party was the FDP which received 39.64% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SVP (24.88%), the Green Party (12.27%) and the SP (10.95%). In the federal election, a total of 89 votes were cast, and the voter turnout was 39.0%.[12]
Economy

Education
In Aetingen about 110 or (40.3%) of the population have completed non-mandatory upper secondary education, and 41 or (15.0%) have completed additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule). Of the 41 who completed tertiary schooling, 75.6% were Swiss men, 24.4% were Swiss women.[7]
