Шаблон:Infobox Greek Dimos Agia Sofia (Шаблон:Lang-el, Шаблон:IPA-el), known as Oxilar (Шаблон:Lang-el) until 1927,[1] is a village in the municipality of Tyrnavos. Before the 1997 local government reform it was a part of the community of Dendra.[2] The 2011 census recorded 109 inhabitants in the village.[3] Agia Sofia is a part of the local community of Dendra Tyrnavou.[3]

History

In the Ottoman tahrir defter (number 101) of 1521, the settlement was recorded as a village with the name Шаблон:Transliteration. Moreover, in the Ottoman tahrir defter (number 225) of 1544, the village included Selanik Yörüks, who had military obligations that required them to give five soldiers (eşküncü) and 20 assistants (yamaks) per household (ocak).[4]

Etymology

The former name Шаблон:Transliteration means archers in Turkish.[5] The current name Agia Sofia means Holy Wisdom in Greek.

Population

According to the 2011 census, the population of the settlement of Agia Sofia was 109 people, an increase of over 100% compared with the population of the previous census of 2001.[3][6]
