Шаблон:Short description

Шаблон:Infobox musical artist Delilah Bon (8 March 1997, Barnsley, Yorkshire, United Kingdom) is the alias of Lauren Tate and a British singer, songwriter, rapper and producer.[1][2] She is also known as the lead singer of the grunge band Hands Off Gretel.[2][3] She has received significant coverage from Kerrang!,[4] the Barnsley Chronicle[5] and French music TV show Taratata.[6]

Career

Sparked by all the sexual assaults and social injustices Lauren Tate witnessed and experienced during her time performing with Hands Off Gretel, she started expressing her fury in form of lyrics and recorded the resulting songs - at first only meant for herself. Realizing that others would also feel empowered by her new music she started to publish her new work and entered the stage as Delilah Bon.[7][8]

She posted her first single "Devil" July 2020, followed by several other tracks and later released her debut album "Delilah Bon" in May 2021.[9] Her debut tour followed in autumn 2022.[2]

In the end of 2023 Bon was invited to perform at France's biggest music TV programm Taratata.[5][10] She performed her song "War on Women", shared the stage with Shaka Ponk and gave an interview, in which she announced working on her second album.[10][6]

Musical style and lyrics

Bon's music spans over several genres including 2000s style hip-hop, melodic rap and nu-metal.[3] She uses different styles in her performance, often alternating between screaming, rapping and singing.[3] As diverese as her own music are her influences: in interviews she listed artists such as P!nk, Xtina, Bikini Kill, the Destillers, Slipknot, Korn, Salt N Pepa, Rico Nasty and Eminem.[3]

With her lyrics, she adresses topics such as social injustice, sexual harassment, the specific experiences girls and non-binary people live through and other generally feminist themes.[7][8] Her art also serves as a way to process current events: her single "Dead Men Don't Rape" was Bons reaction to Roe v. Wade being overturned in the United States.[2][3]

When asked about the main message and values behind her music, Delilah Bon states:

Everything I do is just to empower people[8]

I always sing for the girls, for the gays[6]

Awards and nominations

Delilah Bon was nominated for the Heavy Music Awards 2023 in the category Best UK Breakthrough Artist.[11][12] She competed with Cody Frost, Lake Malice, Kid Bookie, As December Falls, Blackgold and ZAND.[12] December Falls would win this category.[13]
