Шаблон:Orphan The 1949 Enugu Colliery Massacre took place on 18 November 1949, when a British Superintendent of Police, F S Philip, commanding a number of British and Nigerian Police Officers ordered the shooting of unarmed protesting coal mine workers of the Iva Valley Coal Mine who were on strike.[1][2][3]

The Iva Valley Coal Mine, located in the popular Igbo city of Enugu in Enugu state, was one of a number owned by the British-administered Enugu Colliery.[2][3]

Some historiansШаблон:Which consider the incident to have triggered a cascade of events culminating in the decolonization and end of British rule in Nigeria.[1]
