The 65th annual Liberty Bowl game generally features teams from the Big 12 Conference and the Southeastern Conference, however this year's matchup is expected to feature a Big 12 team versus an American team as the SEC does not have enough bowl-eligible teams. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. CST and will air on ESPN. The Liberty Bowl will be one of the 2023–24 bowl games that will be concluding the 2023 FBS football season. The bowl game will be sponsored by automotive retailer AutoZone, and the game will officially known as the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

Teams

The bowl features the Iowa State Cyclones of the Big 12 Conference against the Memphis Tigers of the American Athletic Conference (The American).

This will be the second meeting between Iowa State and Memphis; more specifically, it will be a rematch of the 2017 Liberty Bowl which saw the Cyclones defeat the Tigers 21–20.

Iowa State Cyclones

This will be Iowa State's fourth Liberty Bowl; the Cyclones are 1–2 in the game thus far, their sole win coming in the aforementioned 2017 game.

Memphis Tigers

This will be Memphis' second Liberty Bowl, after the aforementioned 2017 game. Like that game, it will serve as a de facto home game for the Tigers, as Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium is the Tigers' home field.
