On 7 April 2023 a terrorist attack with a grenade took place in Yar Hussain Bazar, Swabi District Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sahir Khan was killed in the incident, while Gul Nasib and Ijaz, two other police constables, were injured as well. When they were traveling to the Yar Hussain Police Station to break their fast, the terrorists tossed a hand grenade into their car. Ijaz suffered minor injuries while Constable Nasib was sent to the Mardan Medical Complex for treatment.[1]

Background

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan's Swabi district has experienced an increase in terrorist assaults by the outlawed group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on law enforcement officers in recent years. A police officer was injured in an attack on the Yar Hussain police station in January 2023. After a spike in terror strikes by the TTP in the province, this was the first assault on a police station in the region. A national anti-terror operation has recently been approved by the nation to eradicate terrorism, particularly in light of the surge in assaults by the TTP.[2][3]

Reactions

An effort was made to disturb the peace, according to the Swabi district police officer who denounced the attack on the innocent cops who were only doing their job of protecting the people. He gave the populace the assurance that by putting an end to terrorism, the security services would guarantee the safety of people's lives and property. Authorities have started searching the area in an effort to apprehend the extremists behind the attack. The tragedy has also received extensive coverage in both local and international media, with many criticizing the attack and offering sympathy to the victims' families.[4][5]
