Шаблон:Infobox games The 2024 Sukma Games, officially known as the 21st Sukma Games is a multi-sport event that will be held in Sarawak.[1] Johor was supposed to host the 20th edition of the Games in July 2020, but were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the 20th edition took over by the National Sports Council (NSC) in September 2022.[2][3] This will be Sarawak's third time to host the Sukma Games since its first time in 1990, and second time in 2016.[4]

Organization

Host state

During a meeting of Sukma's highest committee, which was chaired by then-Ministry of Youth and Sports, Khairy Jamaluddin on May 15, 2015, the committee awarded Perak and Johor the right to host 2018 Sukma Games and 2020 Sukma Games (which was postponed to 2022, held in Kuala Lumpur due to COVID-19 pandemic) respectively.[5]

In 2023, Sarawak were chosen as the host of Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) 2024 after full agreement by Malaysia Games (Sukma) Supreme Committee to organize the biennial sports event. The Committee, which is chaired by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh, said the selection of Sarawak for next year's Sukma was also based on the rotation system.[6]

Places

In 2016, the Johor state government had already started building new venues to provide the state to organize the sport event and planned to involve all 10 districts from the state. This includes a sports stadium to be built in Mount Austin.[7][8]

In 2023, the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, agreed to fully allocate the funds for Sarawak to host Sukan Malaysia 2024.[9]

Marketing

Note: as of 2023, there are no new information available regarding Logo and Mascot of Sukma 2024.

The official logo of the 2024 Sukma Games is jawi writing graphic of the word ‘Jim’ which representing the state of Johor that resembled a festival torch. It represents Jawi writing as the pride of the people of Johor who still upheld the jawi writing. Gambier and black pepper the natural treasures of the state were depicted in the logo.[10][11]

Mascot

The official mascot of the 2024 Sukma Games is a Malayan tiger named Jimi. He represented bravery and fierceness and also highlighted the characteristics of the Johor Sultanate which was the identity of the state of Johor. He is described as cute and friendly but aggressive and fierce when playing sports.[12][13]
