A by-election is expected to take place in 2024 in the UK Parliament constituency of Wellingborough following a 2023 recall petition that removed the incumbent MP Peter Bone under the terms of the Recall of MPs Act 2015, triggered by his six-week suspension from the House of Commons. The date of the election is yet to be determined. The by-election will be the 20th of the 58th Parliament, which was elected in 2019.[1]

Background

Constituency

Wellingborough has been a Conservative-held seat since 2005, and they have gained votes in every subsequent election. The seat is estimated to have voted Leave in the 2016 Brexit referendum by a margin of 64% to 36%.[2]

Candidates

Labour selected Gen Kitchen to stand in November 2023, out of a shortlist of two. She is a charity worker.[3][4]

The Liberal Democrats selected Ana Savage Gunn, a former Police and Crime Commissioner candidate for Northamptonshire, and a care home worker.[5]

The Green Party selected Will Morris, an insurance underwriter and parish councillor.[6]
