Albana Bilalli, known professionally as Albana, is an Albanian singer, songwriter, and music composer known for her performances in various music genres, including soul, R&B, funk, and jazz.[1][2]
Early life
Bilalli was born on July 27, 1989, in Pristina, Kosovo.[1] Her early education started in Pristina, where she completed her primary schooling.[2]
She attended the Zenel Hajdini school in Kodra e Trimave and later continued her music education at the Prenk Jakova School of Music. Bilalli continued her formal education by enrolling in the Faculty of Arts in Pristina, specializing in solo singing. She completed her master's degree with a focus on classical singing (mezzo-soprano) on December 17, 2014.[2][1]
Music career
Her debut in the music scene took place at the Kënga Magjike festival with the release of her song, "Akull".[3]
In 2017, Albana released her debut album, Drita ime Fajkoi i vogel dhe Valet e shpirtit, which featured songs in Albanian.Шаблон:Cn
Albana has participated in various music festivals, including Expodubai, Worringer - Weekender Dusseldorf, Top Fest, Kenga Magjike, Doku Fest, Erdh Lezeti, Vinoskop, and many more.[2]Шаблон:Better source needed
She represented Kosovo with traditional Albanian songs at Expo Dubai 2021.[4]
Free is Albana's second album, featuring a sound inspired by the 1960s and 1970s.[5][6] Her music video for the album's first single, "Gentleman", was released on July 15, 2022.Шаблон:Cn Following "Gentleman", Albana released "Too Strong" on October 27, 2022.[7]
On January 12, 2023, Albana released "We go down together", a soul and jazz song.[8]
"I Can Never Get Enough" was released on May 5, 2023, accompanied by an official music video.[9] She performed her then-latest album, FREE, at the Worringer Weekender Festival in Düsseldorf, Germany on June 23, 2023.[10]
Collaborations
Albana has built a diverse portfolio of collaborations throughout her musical career.Шаблон:Peacock-inline Her journey began with her first album, Drita ime Fajkoi i vogel dhe Valet e shpirtit,Шаблон:Peacock-inline which was recorded at Homebaesound Studio and produced by Armend Xhaferi on September 22, 2017. In this debut work, she joined forces with Ilir Bajri (piano), Armend Xhaferi (guitar), Teoman Ukqa (drums), Enes Beu (drums), Fatlind Fehrati (bass), and Dukagjin Muhaxheri (saxophone).[11]
Albana's collaborative efforts took a new turn with the release of her second album, Free.Шаблон:Peacock-inline For this project, she partnered with a band consisting of artists from Germany and Belgrade, including Hayden Chisholm (saxophone), Fedja Tom Franklin (drums/percussion), Miloš Nikolic (Bass), Milan Nikolic (trombone), and others. The album was recorded at HillRiver Studio and produced by Hayden Chisholm, a prominent jazz saxophone player from New Zealand. [6] ALBANA devoted two years to crafting this album, which featured the release of her first single, A s‘më jep ujë, on April 22, 2022.[12]
Albana's collaborative spirit extended to representing Kosovo with folk Albanian music at Expo Dubai on November 25, 2021.Шаблон:Peacock-inline In this endeavor, she worked alongside Astrit Stafai (guitar) and Adorel Haxhiaj (cello).[4]
At an earlier point in her career, Albana was the inaugural lead singer of a new band known as Offchestra.[13] She made the decision to leave the band in 2011.
More recently, Albana engaged in a new collaboration with a band from Germany, featuring Pedja (piano), Leo Asal (drummer), Leonard (guitar), and Hanes (bass) at the "Worringer Weekender" festival in Germany.[14]
