History
In 1996, Action Africa Help International (AAIN) underwent a transformation and became Aktion Africa Hilfe e. V (AAH). This non-profit organization was officially registered in Munich, Germany. However, in 2003, the founders made the decision to relocate the organization's headquarters to Kenya.[3]
Focus area
AAH-I works with communities, emphasizing economic generativity and human rights. Their mission involves addressing the unique challenges faced by those in underserved regions of Africa.[4] AAH-I has over 30 years of experience working with communities, including refugees, internally displaced people, host communities, pastoralists, and people living in urban slums. The organization’s primary goal is to provide support to these communities in the form of health care, education, water and sanitation, food security, and livelihoods.[1][5] AAH-I has been involved in initiatives aimed at improving the lives of people in East and Southern Africa. The organization has been instrumental in providing humanitarian assistance to refugees and internally displaced people in the region. AAH-I has also been involved in research initiatives aimed at understanding the challenges faced by communities in the region.[6][7]
Geographical reach
AAH-I has a presence in South Sudan, Uganda, Somalia, Zambia, Kenya, Djibouti, Sudan, and Ethiopia, and has acquired experience in working with communities affected by conflict and post-conflict scenarios, including refugees, internally displaced persons, and host communities. In addition to this, AAH-I has recently broadened its scope to encompass marginalized groups such as pastoralists and urban slum dwellers.[5] This extensive experience spanning over 20 years demonstrates the organization's commitment to supporting and empowering communities in need.[8]
Awards
In 2027 at the Juba Film Festival, ‘Waja Ta Jena’, (translated ‘Pain of a Child’) and Levi Lubari. The film was produced under Action Africa Help International’s (AAH-I) Capacity Building for Post-conflict Reintegration (CAPOR) project in South Sudan. Levi is an audio-visual technician in the CAPOR project and won Best Video Scriptwriter, Best Cameraman, Best Video/Film Director, and Best Video Editor.[9]
