Adrian Leon Barišić (Шаблон:IPA; born 19 July 2001) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Swiss Super League club Basel and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.

Barišić started his professional career at Osijek, who loaned him to Frosinone in 2022. The following year, he moved to Basel.

A former youth international for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Barišić made his senior international debut in 2023.

Club career

Early career

Barišić started playing football at Croatian club Hajduk Split, before joining Dinamo Zagreb's youth academy in 2014. A year later, he moved to Split's youth setup. In 2018, he switched to Osijek's youth academy. He made his professional debut against Varaždin on 2 May 2021 at the age of 19.[1]

In January 2022, he was loaned to Italian side Frosinone until the end of season.[2] On 12 March, he scored his first professional goal in a triumph over Alessandria.[3]

Basel

In August 2023, Barišić was transferred to Swiss outfit Basel for an undisclosed fee.[4] The club confirmed the deal on 18 August and a few days later he joined Basel's first team for their 2023–24 season under head coach Timo Schultz.[5] Barišić played his domestic league debut for the club in the home game in the St. Jakob-Park on 3 September. Despite the fact that he accidentally scored an own goal, Basel pulled the game back and they played a 2–2 draw with Zürich.[6][7] He immediately became regular starter and remained regular in the starting eleven, even after the change of head coach to Fabio Celestini.

The club announced, on 3 November, that during the Swiss Cup third round match against SC Kriens on 1 November, Barišić been substituted out due to a knee injury, but that the MRI examinations had shown there were no serious injuries. However they added, the team would have to do without its central defender for a number of weeks. Barišić returned on 9 December, making an appearance as substitute, late in the match.[8]

International career

Barišić represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at various youth levels.[9]

In May 2023, he received his first senior call-up, for UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers against Portugal and Luxembourg.[10] He debuted against the former on 17 June.[11]
