André Vellozo is a Brazilian businessman, cybernetician, inventor, and advocate for data ownership rights. He is the founder and CEO of DrumWave Inc., headquartered in Palo Alto, California.[1][2][3] In addition, he is a founding member of the International Data Reserve in Baar, Switzerland.[4][5]

Vellozo has received innovation awards in Brazil, Hong Kong, and the U.S. In addition, Bloomberg Línea ranked Vellozo on its 2022 list of the World’s Top 100 Influential Latin Americans and its 2023 list of the Top 100 Innovators in Latin America.[6]

Early life and career

He was born in Brasilia, Brazil. He later moved to the U.S. at the end of 2011, relocating to New York City, and began advocating for data ownership rights.[3]

Big finance, big tech, and big government

Since 2011, Vellozo has been involved with companies and governments to promote data ownership rights. He advocates for data ownership rights as the solution to privacy issues and artificial intelligence regulation.[1]

In April 2021, Vellozo presented the first version of a data wallet platform and data savings models to Roberto Campos Neto, the Brazilian Central Bank Chief, and the Board, sharing his insights about the dynamics of data monetization and how it functions to reduce financial and digital asymmetry.[4] Campos Neto led the recent business and technological innovation with Pix, Brazil’s popular instant payment platform, and has shown support for creating the infrastructure for the new data economy.[7][8]

He was ranked on Bloomberg Linea’s 2022 list of the World's Top 100 Influential Latin Americans with global ambitions and impact. 2022.[6][9]

In 2015, he founded DrumWave Inc., headquartered in Palo Alto, California. DrumWave’s input was instrumental in helping to craft the draft bill PLP 234/2023 introduced to Brazil’s parliament on November 1, 2023, to establish the Brazilian Data Monetization Ecosystem, as well as changes to the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD) to allow Brazilians to own and monetize their own data.[8]
