Early life and education

Berezin was born in Leningrad, Russia in 1972, he is the eldest child of Boris, a computer programmer, and Zina, a concert violinist and music instructor, came to Melbourne as a refugee with his family in 1976.[2] Berezin is fluent in Russian and has since learned Yiddish, his ancestral tongue. Berezin started his academic career at Monash University in 1990 after graduating from Melbourne High School. He participated in a dual degree program, pursuing both law and art. Berezin holds an associate degree of film.

Career

While a student at Monash University, Berezin's performance on Sunday in the Park with George impressed Stacey Testro, a talent agent and film producer who saw his potential and brought him under her representation, leading to opportunities in opera and musical theater.[3][4]

In 1994, Berezin, at the age of 22, was chosen to play Anthony Warlow's understudy in The Secret Garden, a significant part that served as his entry into the world of professional acting. Berezin has since appeared in over 30 of Australia's most known Music Theatre productions.[5]

In 2023, Berezin was appointed as the president of The Green Room Awards Association.[6][7]

Personal life

Berezin is married and has three children with Theresa Borg, an actor and playwright.[19][20] They established and co-founded Life Like Touring together, a production house that has become a producer of musical theatre and family theatre.[21][22]

In 2016, Berezin and Borg sold Life Like Touring to Australian entertainment behemoth TEG/Ticketek.[23] They exited the business in 2019 and established Monstrous Theatre, an independent production company specialising in plays, opera and boutique musicals.[24]
