Arnex-sur-Orbe (Шаблон:IPA-fr, literally Arnex on Orbe) is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Vaud, located in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois.

History

Arnex-sur-Orbe is first mentioned in 1049 as Arniacum.[1]

Geography

Arnex-sur-Orbe has an area, Шаблон:As of, of Шаблон:Convert. Of this area, Шаблон:Convert or 73.6% is used for agricultural purposes, while Шаблон:Convert or 19.4% is forested. Of the rest of the land, Шаблон:Convert or 6.4% is settled (buildings or roads), Шаблон:Convert or 0.5% is either rivers or lakes and Шаблон:Convert or 0.3% is unproductive land.[2]

Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 2.2% and transportation infrastructure made up 3.7%. Out of the forested land, 18.0% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.4% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 60.2% is used for growing crops and 7.4% is pastures, while 6.0% is used for orchards or vine crops. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.[2]

The municipality was part of the Orbe District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Arnex-sur-Orbe became part of the new district of Jura-Nord Vaudois.[3]

The municipality is located above the western Orbe valley.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is Argent, a cross Sable, overall crossed in saltire a key and sword Gules.[4]

Demographics

Of the adult population, 64 people or 11.1% of the population are between 20 and 29 years old. 80 people or 13.8% are between 30 and 39, 77 people or 13.3% are between 40 and 49, and 94 people or 16.2% are between 50 and 59. The senior population distribution is 57 people or 9.8% of the population are between 60 and 69 years old, 47 people or 8.1% are between 70 and 79, there are 21 people or 3.6% who are between 80 and 89, and there are 3 people or 0.5% who are 90 and older.[8]

Sights

The entire village of Arnex-sur-Orbe is designated as part of the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites.[11]

Politics

In the 2007 federal election the most popular party was the SVP which received 26.38% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SP (25%), the FDP (18.25%) and the Green Party (10.21%). In the federal election, a total of 186 votes were cast, and the voter turnout was 44.1%.[12]

Economy

Шаблон:As of, there were 71 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 25 businesses involved in this sector. 22 people were employed in the secondary sector and there were 5 businesses in this sector. 30 people were employed in the tertiary sector, with 7 businesses in this sector.[6] There were 281 residents of the municipality who were employed in some capacity, of which females made up 44.1% of the workforce.

Education

In Arnex-sur-Orbe about 192 or (36.2%) of the population have completed non-mandatory upper secondary education, and 55 or (10.4%) have completed additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule). Of the 55 who completed tertiary schooling, 63.6% were Swiss men, 27.3% were Swiss women.[7]

In the 2009/2010 school year there were a total of 78 students in the Arnex-sur-Orbe school district. In the Vaud cantonal school system, two years of non-obligatory pre-school are provided by the political districts.[15] During the school year, the political district provided pre-school care for a total of 578 children of which 359 children (62.1%) received subsidized pre-school care. The canton's primary school program requires students to attend for four years. There were 40 students in the municipal primary school program. The obligatory lower secondary school program lasts for six years and there were 38 students in those schools.[16]
