It is concerned with professional standards of competence for medical secretaries, medical receptionists, administrators and practice managers.[1] It offers 14 qualifications for General Practice staff in the UK working with the City and Guilds of London Institute.[2] AMSPAR qualifications appear to be recognised widely in the NHS.[3]

Tom Brownlie is the chief executive officer.[4]

It is a private company limited by guarantee[5] and a registered charity.[6]
