Azad Adhikar Sena, also known by its short name AAS, is an unregistered political party in India, which is presently undergoing the process of registration before the Election Commission of India.[1]

Initial attempts

Azad Adhikar Sena was initially started by ex IPS officer Amitabh Thakur along with others in August 2021.[2]

Immediately after this announcement, Thakur was arrested in a criminal case, which he alleged to be politically motivated.[3][4]

Resumption

Later, Thakur resumed the work of initiating the formation of Adhikar Sena after his release from jail in March 2022.[5]

In June 2022, the formation of Adhikar Sena was again announced.[6][7] He said the primary aim of Adhikar Sena is to instill the feeling and concept that all the powers (Adhikar) and authorities lie in the citizen of India, as bestowed through the Constitution of India and various laws of the Land.[8] Currently, the Party is in process of getting registered with the Election Commission of India.

Various works

After its formation, Adhikar Sena has been expanding and working in various areas of India, with particular focus on Uttar Pradesh. It has been making its presence felt through various interventions.[9][10]

Meanwhile, Thakur has announced that he will contest 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Ballia.[11][12]

Adhikar Sena participated in the December 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly by-elections, where its candidates Mohammad Yusuf and Moin Khan contested respectively from Khatauli and Rampur assembly seats.[13]

Adhikar Sena also participated in the Local urban bodies elections in Uttar Pradesh.[14][15][16][17][18]

Change of name

The Election Commission directed the Party to change its name to Azad Adhikar Sena, which the Party duly complied with and hence Adhikar Sena is now known as Azad Adhikar Sena (AAS).[19]

Other works

Even after change of name, the Party is continuously working on various agenda and activities, making its presence felt, particularly in the State of Uttar Pradesh, as can be seen from the series of activities being undertaken by the Party.[20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28]
