School closures

In recent years, due to declining enrollment rates, Azusa has been closing schools. Gladstone Street Elementary School and Mountain View Elementary both closed in 2019.[2] All existing middle schools and Ellington, Azusa's K-8 school, were closed to be replaced by Gladstone High School in 2023, which became a middle school in the 2023-2024 school year. Powell Elementary closed down as well. These school closures were done to merge more students into a smaller amount of schools. For the 2023-2024 school year, all middle school-aged students will go to Gladstone High School, which will become a middle school, and all high school-aged students will go to Azusa High School. [3] Foothill Middle School will be repurposed as the eastern campus for Azusa High School.
