Benjamin Landy Pavlon, better known by his stage name BLP Kosher (stylized in uppercase), is an American rapper from Deerfield Beach, Broward County, Florida.[1][2][3][4]

He began his music career in 2021 by uploading original songs to SoundCloud. He is Jewish and is known for embracing his heritage and faith in his music and public image.[1] In 2022, he released his mixtape BLP Kosher and the Magic Dreidel, which included the hit songs "Jew on the Canoe" and "The Nac".

In 2023, he collaborated with fellow lyrical rapper BabyTron on a song titled "Mazel Tron" paired with a Lyrical Lemonade music video directed by Cole Bennett.[5]

Later the same year, he released his debut studio album Bars Mitzvah, which was supported by the single "Special K".

Early life and education

Landy-Pavlon was born in 2000 in Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida.[6]

Before rap, BLP was a semi-professional skateboarder, with sponsors such as Habitat Skateboards, HUF Footwear, and Mad Skate Shop.[7] He started skating at the age of 7,[1] and has multiple videos on the Vice Skateboarding Channel, in which he showcases his skateboarding.[8][9][10][11]

Career

BLP started rapping in early 2021. His friend Jew Sheisty, a fellow Jewish rapper became his mentor, pushing him to keep rapping after they posted a song on SoundCloud together. Jew Sheisty also created Landy-Pavlon's stage name, and when Landy-Pavlon told him he was thinking of naming himself "luh kosher," Jew Sheisty told him to keep the BLP from his skating days, and thus BLP Kosher was born.[1]

BLP is known for wordplay, with multiple double entendres per song. His childhood consisting of skateboarding shows in his songs as well, with common references to certain skate tricks such as the NAC (Not A Chance) attempted by Paul "P-Rod" Rodriguez in the film Street Dreams, Yoshi Tanenbaum, Rob Dyrdek, Tommy Guerrero, and dozens more. He even references BMX with bars about Dave Mirra.

BLP has also heavily embraced his Jewish heritage, similarly to his predecessor and mentor Jew Sheisty. His Jewish heritage is on display via songs titles such as "Nightmare on Shabbat" and "Hanukkahween", as well as in the lyrics of most of, if not all of his songs. BLP regularly practices Shabbat, as well as abstaining from drinking and drugs, citing previous addictions to marijuana.[6]

His first major hit was the song "Mazel Tron" featuring fellow lyrical rapper BabyTron. The song and music video were recorded in the span of two days,[12] and accrued over a million views within a week.[13]
