Bagh-e-Karachi (Urdu: Шаблон:Nastaliq), previously known as Aladin Park is a public park currently under construction in Karachi, Pakistan.[1] The groundbreaking ceremony was performed by Governor of Sindh Kamran Tessori on January 28, 2023.[1] The ceremony was also attended by the United Arab Emirates Consul General and Administrator Karachi, Syed Saifur Rehman.[2]

History

Bagh-e-Karachi was originally part of the Karachi Safari Park, which was designated as a public park. However, in 1995, it was converted into the Aladdin Amusement Park, which also housed the Aladdin Shopping Mall and the Pavilion & Club. These establishments became popular attractions over the years. On 14 June 2021, the Supreme Court of Pakistan declared these structures illegal, as they were illegally constructed on public property.[3] The court ordered their demolition within two days as part of the anti-encroachment campaign.[4] After the demolition, the area was cleared and returned to its original purpose as a public park, now known as Bagh Karachi.[5]

Development

The park, spanning over an area of 72 acres, is being constructed following orders from the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Because the place had been encroached upon in the past.[1] As part of the inauguration, a plaque was unveiled and the foundation stone was laid by the Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, and the UAE Consul General.[6] According to Tessori, it will add to the beauty of Karachi and its construction is expected to be completed in six months.[7]

In the initial phase of construction, 5653 trees were planted in the park.[6] The park is being envisioned as a family park with several recreational amenities, including swings.[6]

New City Council building

Apart from the park, a new building for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) City Council with a capacity of 600 to 800 seats is also being constructed on the grounds. Governor Tesori also laid the foundation stone of this new building.[8][9]
