Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC)

Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), renowned state owned Public Sector Corporation was established in the year 1976 by a Presidential Order-27(PO-27) under the ministry of Industries, Govt. of Bangladesh. The main function of BCIC among other function is to produce Chemical Fertilizer specially Urea, DAP and TSP, to import Urea from abroad and to supply those to the Farmers at low cost within shortest time. BCIC is playing a vital role for achieving self-sufficiency in Food of the Country by producing and distributing Urea, DAP and TSP uninterruptedly. BCIC is also contributing in the development of Education, Culture and Infrastructures of the country by producing Paper, Cement, Sanitary ware and other products.


BCIC has started its business with 97 Factories/Enterprises during the inception of Corporation in the year 1976. Latter, according to the decision of the Government in different time, some factories/enterprises were disinvested, some factories/enterprises were returned to the original owner & other owner/organization and some factories/enterprises were paid off to close.As a result, number of factories/enterprise of BCIC has decreased. At present only 10 (ten) factories/enterprises are operating under BCIC.The name of the factories are as follows

Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Ltd. (CUFL),2.Jamuna Fertilizer Company Ltd (JFCL).3.Ashuganj Fertilizer & Chemical Company Ltd (AFCCL).4. Shahjalal Fertilizer Company Ltd. (SFCL), 5.TSP Complex Ltd. (TSPCL),6. DAP Fertilizer Company Ltd. (DAPFCL), 7. Karnaphuly Paper Mills Ltd. (KPM), 8. Chattak Cement Company Ltd. (CCCL), 9. Bangladesh Insulator & Sanitary ware Factory Ltd (BISF) & 10. Usmania Glass sheet Factory Ltd (UGSFL). Beside this, BCIC is also managing a Training Institute named Training Institute for Chemical Industries (TICI) to built-up the Trained Human Resource for Industries. Furthermore, under capital sharing BCIC has 9 (nine) joint venture companies.


In order to meet the demand of  Urea fertilizer in the country, the construction of Ghorashal Polash Urea Fertilizer Factory with a production capacity of  9.24 Lac M.T has been completed with the technical assistance of MHI, Japan. Honorable prime minister sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Factory on 12 November -2023. Presently, Ghorashal Polash Urea Fertilizer Factory is producing  the Urea Fertilizer As a  result of continued production in the Factory, the import dependency of Urea Fertilizer will be reduced  and foreign exchange will be saved.To facilitate in preserving Urea fertilizer in good manner, construction of 13 no.s of Buffer Godown project and construction of 34 no.s of Buffer Godown project are implementing in different area of Bangladesh. To increase production capacity and also to save the energy through modernization of Chattak Cement Company Ltd. (CCCL), the implementation of a project named "Conversion of production process from wet process to dry process of CCCL" is going on. A temporary chemical godown project already has been completed at the site of the Dhaka Match Factory at Shyampeur near Dhaka.


Presently, BCIC has taken a long-term planning to sustain the original production capacity through modernization and rehabilitation of old factories. After materialization of the said long-term planning, it is strongly believed that BCIC will be a profitable organization and also regain its golden glory.
