Differences between the old and the new orthography

1. The soft sign Шаблон:Lang Шаблон:IPAslink is no longer written when denoting assimilation of 'softness': Шаблон:Lang, instead of Шаблон:Lang.
2. The soft sign is no longer written between double consonants: Шаблон:Lang, instead of Шаблон:Lang.
3. The particle Шаблон:Lang and the preposition Шаблон:Lang are written unchanged, independently of pronunciation: Шаблон:Lang, instead of Шаблон:Lang; and Шаблон:Lang, instead of Шаблон:Lang (compare with English definite article "the").
4. Loanword orthography is regulated:
   • Akanye is preserved in all cases except ten words (such as Шаблон:Lang instead of Шаблон:Lang; these exceptions were abolished in 1959)
   • Central-European L is transmitted as hard Шаблон:IPAslink and not soft Шаблон:IPAslink, as in Russian
   • The variants of writing the sound of Шаблон:Lang with letters Шаблон:Lang are removed
   • The endings Шаблон:Lang are replaced with Шаблон:Lang, for example: Шаблон:Lang, instead of Шаблон:Lang
   • The endings Шаблон:Lang are used where appropriate, for example: Шаблон:Lang instead of Шаблон:Lang.
5. The orthography of personal names is regulated so that vernacular forms are replaced with canonical Orthodox forms, for example: Шаблон:Lang instead of Шаблон:Lang or Шаблон:Lang.
6. In morphology, the ending Шаблон:Lang denoting genitive case is regulated as Шаблон:Lang, as in Russian, and not as Шаблон:Lang, as in certain modern dialects. Also unified is the spelling of names in dative and prepositional case.
