Bright Stars FC, also Soltilo Bright Stars, is a Ugandan football club. They play in the top division of Ugandan football, the Ugandan Super League.[1]

In September 2017, it was announced that Japan International Keisuke Honda, through his management company called Honda Estilo, bought a controlling interest in the club.[2][3] Their motto is “Always Innovating, Never Imitating.”[4]

History

Bright Stars was founded in 1997. They were promoted to the Uganda Super League after winning the FUFA Big League in 2012-13.[5] John Kayanja was the coach who led the Stars to the Super League.[6]

For their inaugural top flight season in 2013–14, Bright Stars turned to Livingstone Mbabazi to coach the team.[7] Bright Stars flirted with relegation but finished in 12th place, two spots above the drop.[8][9]

Bright Stars made the 2019 Uganda Cup final, their first ever finals appearance, but were defeated 5–4 on penalties by Proline FC after the game finished at a 1-1 draw.

In the 2014–15 season, the club moved to Mwererwe, in the Matugga neighborhood, north of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. Previously, the team played at the 15,000 capacity Nakivubo Stadium.[6][10]

Partnerships

In 2020, the club expanded its network of partnerships to enhance its financial stability and international recognition. Bright Stars successfully forged collaborations with Showa Glove Co. Limited and the Ashinaga, two esteemed organizations. [11][12]

Showa Glove Co. Limited Partnership: Showa Glove Co. Limited, a renowned Japanese manufacturer specializing in the production of household, work, and industrial gloves, has assumed the role of Bright Stars Football Club's official shirt sponsor. This strategic alliance offers substantial financial backing to the club and significantly heightens its visibility, both domestically and internationally. The association with Showa Glove not only underscores the club's financial resilience but also underscores its growing international appeal, showcasing the global reach of Ugandan football and Bright Stars FC.[13][4][14]

Ashinaga Uganda Partnership: Bright Stars FC has solidified its commitment to social responsibility by partnering with the Ashinaga, a distinguished non-profit organization, specializes in providing support to children who have tragically lost their parents. In this unique partnership, Ashinaga assumes the role of a "special kids partner" for the club. Beyond the realm of football, this collaboration underscores the club's dedication to broader community engagement and its mission to make a positive impact outside the football pitch. The partnership with Ashinaga is a testament to Bright Stars' values, promoting social well-being and nurturing the youth.

These partnerships extend beyond financial support, serving as a platform for Bright Stars to expand its presence and gain recognition in Japan and other international markets. Soltilo, a Japanese company, organized an international conference on African development at Aya Samaj School in Kololo in 2019 to showcase the talents of young footballers. This effort has helped disadvantaged Ugandan children develop their talents. [15]

In the 2022–2023 season, Bright Stars FC also signed a partnership with MelBet, in which the company provided a replica jersey for the fans and facilitated the technical team.[14]
