Musical career

Early in their career, Chantele described their musical style as "movement poetry" or "movement music" - meaning, to help carry a social movement. Over time, Chantele's music has become more focused on sex, love, and emotional / physical breakups from a queer person's point of view.[1]

Chantele released their first album, A Fire on Venus, on April 19, 2019. The album explores themes of love, sex, sensitivity, and relationship issues. Their breakout single, Moonroof, was heavily influenced by pop and hip-hop acts from the 1990s, and was streamed over 1 million times as of August 2022.[2] Moonroof was featured on the official Pride 2022 playlist for the TV show The L Word.[3] Moonroof and other songs off A Fire on Venus have been added to Chani Nicholas' monthly Cosmic Playlists, starting in 2019.[4]

To promote the album, Chantele did a live theater performance covering 17 songs with a seven piece band, backing vocalists and numerous dancers directed by Kaylin Horgan's choreography.[5]

2020: The Golden Opportunity

Chantele's 2020 album The Golden Opportunity details their experience in the military and explores some of the recruitment tactics used on them while they were still in high school, primarily the idea that joining the military could be a "golden opportunity".
