Camembert (Шаблон:IPA-fr) is a commune in the Orne department in north-western France.[1]

It is the place where camembert cheese originated.[2]

Geography

The commune has one river running through it the Viette in addition to four streams, the Fontaine de la Motte, Besion, the Moulin Neuf, plus the Costillets.[3]

History

The village is most noted for the early development of camembert cheese by Marie Harel in 1791.[2]

  • Maison Du Camembert a museum telling how the story of the history of the cheese and how it is produced.[4] The museum is in the shape of a Camembert cheese.[5]
  • Beamoncel the manor house, which was the home of Marie Harel.[6]
  • President Farm another museum about camembert that is linked to the dairy brand, Président.[6]
