The music centers around highly personal stories of growing up in the Midwest and leaving Christianity. After years of performing as a Country and Americana artist, this release was a sonic and thematic departure.[3]
Personal life
Carpenter identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns.[4] Carpenter is autistic.[4]
