The orchestra calls for piccolo, two flutes, two oboes, cor anglais, two clarinets, bass clarinet, two bassoons, contrabassoon, four horns, two trumpets, three trombones, tuba, timpani, percussion (tam-tam, side drum, tambourine, suspended cymbal), celesta, harp, and strings.
