The episode is set in the Star Wars universe, sharing continuity with The Mandalorian and other spin-offs such as Ahsoka. It was written by Jon Favreau and directed by Robert Rodriguez.

Temuera Morrison, Ming-Na Wen, and Pedro Pascal star in the episode as Boba Fett, Fennec Shand, and Din Djarin / The Mandalorian respectively. Filming began in November 2020 and concluded in June 2021. "Chapter 7: In The Name of Honor" was released on Disney+ on February 9, 2022 to mixed reviews.

Plot

Boba Fett's forces patrol Mos Espa, and Cad Bane and the Pykes plan to fight Fett. At Peli Motto's hangar, R2-D2's starfighter lands, bringing Grogu (wearing Din Djarin's chain mail) into her care. Bane and his Pykes confront Fett, Fennec Shand and Djarin outside the Sanctuary, while the other crime families, having betrayed Fett, attack his soldiers throughout the city. Fett learns from Bane that it was actually the Pykes who killed his Tusken tribe and framed the Nikto gang. After Shand helps the cyborgs, Fett and Djarin hide but order Shaiz's majordomo to negotiate with the Pykes. Diverting the Pykes' attention, the crime lord and the Mandalorian assault them but are soon outnumbered. Freetown's citizens and the cyborgs arrive to save the two. Two Scorpenek annihilator droids with shields impervious to their weapons attack, routing Fett's forces. Djarin, Grogu, and Fett's rancor destroy the droids, before Bane scares off the rancor. Fett loses a gun duel with Bane but survives by stabbing him with his gaffi stick. Grogu puts the errant rancor to sleep, ending the battle. In Mos Eisley, Shand kills the Pyke boss, the mayor, and the other three crime lords. As Mos Espa praises Fett, Djarin and Grogu fly away in their N-1 starfighter. In a mid-credits scene, Cobb Vanth heals in the bacta tank at Fett's palace, while the modifier prepares to implement cybernetic enhancements.

Production

Development

The episode was directed by Robert Rodriguez, who previously directed two episodes for the series and voices Mok Shaiz.[1] The episode was written by the series showrunner Jon Favreau.[2] Favreau believed that it wasn't a good idea to separate the Mandalorian and Grogu as he felt unable to "hit the hard reset button" as both characters weren't good without each other and decided to keep the central relationship for the character for the third season of the former titular series of the same name.[3]

Casting

Ming-Na Wen and Temuera Morrison star in the episode as Fennec Shand and Boba Fett, respectively. Pedro Pascal also reprises his role as Din Djarin / The Mandalorian.[4][5] Timothy Olyphant reprises his role as Cobb Vanth, from The Mandalorian.[6] Other guest appearances include Grogu, Corey Burton as the voice of Cad Bane, Amy Sedaris as Peli Motto, David Pasquesi as the Twi'lek majordomo to Mok Shaiz, and Jennifer Beals as Garsa Fwip.[6][7][8] Carey Jones plays Black Krrsantan, a Wookie bounty hunter, who previously appeared in the Marvel Comics series, Star Wars: Darth Vader and Star Wars: Doctor Aphra.[9] Jordan Bolger and Sophie Thatcher return in guest roles, as Skad and Drash, respectively.[10][11]

Music

Joseph Shirley composed the musical score for the episode, while Ludwig Göransson composed the main theme of the series. The featured tracks were released on February 11, 2022, in the second volume of the season one soundtrack.[12]

Reception

On Rotten Tomatoes the episode has an approval rating of 55% based on reviews from 20 critics, with an average rating of 6.40/10. The website's critics consensus states, ""In the Name of Honor" completes the frustrating trend of being less compelling when it focuses on Boba Fett, but this final shootout does a serviceable job of setting up more interesting adventures in the Star Wars universe".[13]

At the 21st Visual Effects Society Awards, the episode was nominated for Outstanding Created Environment in an Episode, Commercial, or Real-Time Project.[14]
