China Bar is an Australian-Chinese restaurant chain.[1] It primarily operates in the state of Victoria, with some as 24 hour locations.[2]

It operates the largest Asian buffet restaurant in Melbourne.[3] It has multiple CBD locations, and operates in shopping centres.[2] It was founded in 1996, with its flagship store operating on the corner of Russell Street and Lonsdale Street. It has 29 restaurants under 6 brands offering different types of Asian cuisine.[4] Of those 29, two operate in Western Australia and one operates in the Northern Territory.[5]

The chain's franchises have been involved in multiple newsworthy events. In 2015, its flagship CBD locations burned down causing $250,000 in damage and causing the neighbouring restaurant Stalactites to close.[6] In 2021, the Epping Pty Ltd chain was fined ~$300,000 for underpaying its migrant workers and falsifying records.[7]

In 2020 a franchisee of the chain, who was also the brother its founder, was murdered.[8][9][10] The trial was highly publicised. In 2023 a man was acquitted of the murder after being put on trial.[8][11]

The chain was heavily affected by the 2020 COVID pandemic.[12]
