Шаблон:Short description The Cinéma L'Amour is an adult movie theatre on Saint Laurent Boulevard in the Plateau-Mont-Royal, Montreal, Canada.[1][2]

History

The building it occupies opened in 1914 as the Globe, a venue that screened Yiddish films and served as a vaudeville hall.[3][4] The venue's name was changed to the Hollywood in the 1932.[2][5] The cinema first started showing pornographic films in 1969, renaming itself the Pussycat.[2] In 1981 the building was bought by Ivan Koltai, a businessman that wanted to create a franchise of adult movie theatres, and the name was changed to Cinéma L'Amour to match his then existing theatre in Hull, Quebec.[1][6]

The building celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2014.[5][7]

Venue uses

In addition to pornographic films, its programming has sometimes included grindhouse films.[8]

Cinéma L'Amour has been used as a music venue for POP Montreal.[9][7] It has also been rented for music videos such as for Daddy by Charlotte Cardin.[9]
